When is normal curbside trash pickup?

TrashMaster picks up in Bethany on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, depending on your section of town. Generally speaking, the South and West side is on Tuesday (south of Falls Road), North is on Wednesday, and South and East is on Thursday..
What hours is recycling open?

Wednesdays: 8 AM to 6 PM
Fridays: 8AM to 4PM
Saturdays 8 AM to 4 PM
Please note: A resident sticker is required in order to use
the recycling facilities. Free stickers are available at the Town Hall
What recycling materials are accepted?

Newspapers: Whatever comes with the newspaper can be
recycled with the newspaper
Mixed Paper: Magazines and junk mail
Glass: Food and beverage containers only, clean,
separated by color. No window glass or light bulbs, please! (They melt at
different temperatures)
Cardboard: Corrugated Cardboard, cereal type boxes, and
brown paper bags
Scrap Metal: All sorts, including cans (clean). For
large appliances, see attendant.
Batteries: Automobile type only (A new state law
requires trade-ins)
Deposit cans and bottles: Bethany Historical Society
collection in separate trailer
Plastic: Look for the recycling symbol on the bottom #1
PTE or #2 HDPE
Uncontaminated Waste Motor Oil: Separate container (oil
only)
Antifreeze: Separate containers (no oil)
Tires: Please call for information about drop-off charges
Refrigerators and Dehumidifiers: For any Freon-containing
device, please call for information about drop-off charges
Light bulbs: Any non-broken fluorescent, halogen, compact
fluorescent, germicidal, Biax, mercury vapor or incandescent bulbs
Mercury: Any mercury-containing devices (thermostats,
thermometers, debris, etc.)
Non-PCB contaminated ballasts: Ask attendant for assistance
Batteries: Vented Nickel cadmium, Nickel Iron, Sealed Nickel
Cadmium, Alkaline, Zinc Carbon, Lead Acid
Electronics: CRTs, CPU's, TV's, Electronics

NOTE to Contractors: Waste from large remodeling projects
(roofing shingles, etc.) may not be brought to the recycling center. You must
get your own dumpster.
Bulky Waste (furniture, carpeting, and other large
non-recyclable, non-hazardous items) is available on Saturdays at the recycling
center by appointment only. To make arrangements, contact:

What do I do with hazardous waste?

Hazardous Waste (paints, solvents, chemicals) disposed of at
HazWaste, Saturday mornings, at the Regional Water Authority building on Long
Wharf in New Haven. Saturday mornings from 9:00 - 12:00 May-October only. Call
Selectmen to verify times & dates.
Is there a community tag sale in Bethany?

Yes. Community tag sales sponsored by the Recycling Committee
are held at the Airport property usually the first Saturday of each Month, April
to October. Please check with the Selectmen's office for details:
