Bethany Earth Day 2008 took place on Saturday May 17th.
Bethany’s 2nd annual Earth Day took place on Saturday, May 17th from Noon to 4 PM at the Bethany Town Hall, 40 Peck Road, Bethany, CT 06524. Last year over 250 Children, Teenagers, Parents and Friends of the environment attended. We expect to double the number of attendees this year. The Bethany Garden Club will be helping children create their amazing disappearing (bio-degradable) flower pots. We are planning many ecological activities for children of all ages!
The winners of the Amity Global Warming Contest will also be on display and the winners from Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge will be awarded their prizes at 2 PM.
There will be exhibits from electric lawnmowers to environmentally friendly cleaning products. In addition, the Town Hall parking lot will be host to an alternative fuel/hybrid car show. A-1 Toyota will provide free demonstration rides in a brand new Prius or Hybrid Camry. Dworkin Chevrolet will also display the latest Flex Fuel Cars. There will also be several vegetable oil powered cars. A portable solar hot water heating system will also be on display. For more information, please call Isabel Kearns (203) 393-2100 x135.

An important point in this one, more mercury is emitted in burning coal to run an incandescent bulb than to run a CFL (see the section entitled "mercury"):
