 The Center Schoolhouse Committee is made up of six members, four of
whom are appointed by the Bethany Board of Selectmen and two of whom are
appointed by the Board of Education. The committee oversees the use and
maintenance of Bethany’s one room schoolhouse which is located on the grounds of Bethany Community School. |

The Center Schoolhouse is available for community use on special
occasions or by appointment and is regularly used by classes from the Community
School for purposes of curriculum enrichment.
Does the committee offer any awards?

The committee annually presents American History Awards to Bethany
students who have "demonstrated high interest and achievement in the study of
United Stated History." Awards are presented to one student each at the Amity
High School, the Amity Junior High School, and the Bethany Community School.

The Center
Schoolhouse Committee receives and displays donations of books,
historical papers, and other memorabilia related to Bethany’s one-room
schools. The committee has also made available for sale Hazel Hoppe’s
Bethany Yesterday: The One-Room Schools which can be purchased at
the Clark Memorial Library or in the Town Clerk’s Office. |
