Erwin Hauer
Matthew Fletcher |
Erwin Hauer, Austrian born sculptor, began, in the 50's, to
explore perforated modular structures that lent themselves
to architectural usage. He continued to develop these
patented designs along with the technology to produce them,
and installed the modular, light-diffusing walls in
buildings throughout the United States and other countries.
These designs are listed in domus 1928-1999. among the
'quintessential works of modernism'. His sculptures are in
numerous museums and collections. At the invitation of Josef
Albers, Hauer joined the Yale faculty in 1957 and taught
there until 1990. He continues to work as an independent
sculptor, and also as a designer in partnership with Enrique
Rosado, in Bethany, Connecticut. In 2004, as Princeton
Architectural Press published Erwin Hauer: Continua,
architectural walls and screens, Hauer teamed up with Rosado
to adapt his screen walls for production by digital means.
Their biggest joint project so far is a 25'x 40' limestone
bas-relief wall for Centria, 18 W 48th Street, a new
residential high-rise at Rockefeller Center. |

Jean Swanson |
I began my creative life as a writer while teaching English
at a high school in Marin County, California. After I
retired from teaching I moved to Connecticut where I printed
my poetry on the Creative Arts Workshop's Vandercook
Press. I illustrated the poems with woodcuts and hand bound
each book using decorative papers I made for the covers.
This series was recently exhibited at the ALL Gallery at
Erector Square.
I also make handbuilt pots which I burnish and pit fire the
Native American way. I have done pit firings with friends in
Bethany. Also I taught pottery and weaving at Madrone High
School in Marin County. I have my own loom.
Since moving to Connecticut I have learned to create
multi-media collages. I have exhibited pieces in several
galleries in Connecticut. In June I will have one of my
collages exhibited in the Kershner Gallery in Fairfield. My
concentration lately has been on the collage which I enjoy
making tremendously. |

Joanna Keylock |
Joanna Keylock is a mother, actress, and bilingual
children's book author. Her book, Pupazzo's Colorful World,
chronicles the life of an inquisitive bear as he explores
the world around him. The book is available in Spanish and
is currently being translated into Mandarin and Italian. Its
unique feature includes phonetics that help native speakers
of either language pronounce the other. Joanna believes that
in our global community children need to be exposed to a
second language at a very young age as they are natural
receptors. Available at the Yale Barnes and Noble and
Atticus Bookstore in New Haven, Pupazzo’s Colorful World is
a joy to read with your child. For more information about
the book visit www.pupazzo.com |
